Grace Industries (Grace) was contracted by TDI CHPE to install 15,400 LF of new natural gas mains and services and to abandon existing mains and services that conflict with the design of the CHPE duct bank. This gas relocation is part of the broader CHPE Project, which consists of the installation of a fully buried, 339-mile-long, 1,250-megawatt, 400kV direct current power transmission cable and control cables from the Canadian border to New York City.
Within Segment 12 of the CHPE Project in Rockland County, the HVDC alignment follows local and state roadways, primarily in or along U.S. Route 9W, a New York State Department of Transportation-owned highway. Completion of the CHPE Project requires the replacement and/or relocation of several gas mains and services owned by Orange & Rockland Utilities, Inc. (ORU), including gas pipes crossing the project alignment transversely, as well as some longitudinal-running gas mains.
