Modern Efficient Transport and Supply (M.E.T.S.) is an on-airport construction support facility located at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The facility includes a concrete batch plant, material crushing operations, and a marine barging transport system. The on-site concrete batch plant sources materials from local suppliers in communities surrounding JFK. It supplies the concrete needed to support construction across the airport, including the two largest terminals, as well as roadways, parking garages, and other critical infrastructure. Barges transport bulk materials, such as sand, aggregate, steel, and other building supplies, to the site, while also removing non-hazardous debris and soil from construction areas throughout the airport.
M.E.T.S. has eliminated more than 300,000 truck trips on local streets by shifting to barges to transport materials to and from the historic $19 billion airport redevelopment project. Over the course of the project, this approach has reduced roadway travel in surrounding communities by more than 5,000,000 miles, equivalent to circling the globe more than 200 times.
