Eastern Utilities Services (Eastern) was selected to install two HDD crossings, each 2,400 LF, of a 24″ HDPE bundle beneath sensitive environmental areas for the Sunrise Wind Project on Long Island, NY, to support the electric duct bank connection to offshore wind turbines. The HDDs traversed large water bodies of the intracoastal waterway near Fire Island and the Carmans River. This was a key project in New York’s transition to cleaner, renewable energy.
Eastern’s scope of work included furnishing and fusing 4,800 LF of a 24″ HDPE bundle comprised of (2) 8″, (2) 6″, and (2) 4″ DR-11 HDPE pipes. The crossing was installed in low blow count sand, and the project was completed ahead of schedule with zero inadvertent returns.
