Haugland Energy (HE) was contracted by PSEG-LI to construct a new 69kV substation to support load requirements in the surrounding areas. HE cleared the 10-acre site of all trees and bushes. The site was graded with approximately 80,000 cubic yards of imported material, and built a platform to elevate the new substation 40 feet above existing grade. HE constructed the new substation, including all site work, below-grade conduits, grounding, trenchwork, and foundations. Above-grade work included the procurement and setting of steel structures; installation of 69kV transformers, 15kV switchgear, a Trachte control-battery enclosure, gas circuit breakers, circuit switchers, and disconnect switches; along with all overhead aluminum tube bus and associated soft taps. HE wired the SCADA system which included all relay panels, internal wiring, field wiring, and the DC battery system. The substation remained in service during all construction activities, with all work performed under clearance. HE also installed two (2) 15kV exit feeders included approximately two (2) miles of duct bank and CM-11 manholes installed by open-cut trench, including all restoration on state and municipal roadways. Work also included pulling, splicing, termination, and testing of 15kV 750mcm Okonite cable.
