The Lovett 345kV GIS Substation required critical expansion to support New York State’s transition to clean energy, driven in part by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA). Grace Industries (Grace) was subcontracted by BETA Engineering and served as the prime design-build contractor. Grace was responsible for site preparation, major foundations, and various civil construction installations associated with the GIS substation expansion.
The scope of work included maintaining the stormwater pollution prevention plan (SWPPP), demolishing existing concrete walls and structures, and performing site clearing and grading. It also involved installing a new drainage system, below-grade conduits, pull boxes, and a concrete duct bank system. Additional work included the installation of concrete retaining walls, drilling concrete foundations for substation structures and transmission poles, and installing a complete grounding grid, including structure grounding and surface stone.
