Eastern Utilities Services (Eastern) was contracted by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ) to install a trenchless crossing below the Bergen Basin at JFK Airport for the purpose of electrically connecting new solar panels that PANYNJ installed above the long-term parking lots. This was a key project in JFK Airport’s transition to cleaner, renewable energy. Eastern’s scope of work included furnishing and fusing 1,400 LF of 30” HDPE casing pipe with (4) 6”, (1) 3”, (2) 2” DR-11 HDPE carrier pipes on spacers. Crossing was installed in low blow count sand under the Bergen Basin waterbody. Project was completed well ahead of schedule with zero inadvertent returns.
