Eastern Utilities Services (Eastern) was a member participant on a design-build team, lead by Grace Industries (a Haugland company), responsible for this critical transmission infrastructure project for a 138kV underground duct bank under New York State Route 440 on Staten Island, a Reliable Clean City Project (RCCP) for Con Edison aimed at assisting New York State’s transition to a Clean Energy Future. Eastern’s scope of work included the furnishing, fusing and installing of a 1,268 LF 24” bundle of ((4) 8” and (5) 4”) DR-11 HDPE Pipes at a 2,000 ft radius in some of the hardest, most abrasive rock in the country. 180 ft of 48” surface casing was installed due to the potential for road collapse in the low blow count sand that was used as fill for the road that the drill rig was set up on. All drilling equipment was required (due to permit stipulations) to be set up on 2 lanes of surface streets at a width of 25 feet, making for very tight work spaces. The job was completed on time and under budget.
