Central Hudson Gas & Electric selected Haugland Energy for a design-build contract for a 2 MW microgrid, which included the installation of a 2 MW natural gas-fired generator and a 2 MW/1.2 MWh BESS unit, along with system integration and all associated civil and electrical work. Haugland Energy completed the engineering, procurement, and construction of the 2 MW microgrid, located along Central Hudson’s right-of-way in the town of East Fishkill.
The utility company identified a load pocket within its service territory that faced ongoing reliability issues. Due to the challenges of installing underground circuits in this area, along with reliability issues associated with existing overhead circuits, the decision was made to utilize distributed energy resources in a microgrid configuration. Haugland Energy worked closely with Central Hudson and the selected engineering consultant to complete the design, procurement, and installation of the system.
This project required multiple trades, including linemen, electricians, operating engineers, and laborers, all of whom are part of the Haugland Group family of companies. Prior to generator and battery installation, the land had to be cleared and a critical retaining wall constructed to level the site and create a stable platform for the system.
