Belmont Racetrack Substation

Haugland Energy was awarded the construction of a new 69kV substation supporting UBS Arena and Belmont Shopping Village, completed during the COVID-19 pandemic with no impact to schedule while adhering to all protocols. The project included full site work such as below-grade conduits, grounding, Trenwa, and foundations, as well as above-grade procurement and installation of steel structures, customer-owned 138kV transformers, 15kV switchgear, a Trachte control and battery enclosure, gas circuit breakers, circuit switchers, disconnect switches, overhead aluminum tube bus, and associated soft taps. The SCADA system scope covered all relay panels, internal and field wiring, and the DC battery system, with the substation remaining in service throughout construction under clearances. Work also included installation of eight 15kV exit feeders consisting of approximately five miles of duct bank and 20 CM-11 manholes completed via open-cut trenching with restoration of state and municipal roadways, along with pulling, splicing, terminating, and testing 15kV 750mcm Okonite cable. Additionally, the project involved relocation of two 69kV underground transmission cables using both open-cut trenching and horizontal directional drilling over a new two-mile route, installation of two new transmission vaults, and installation of 69kV 2500mcm cable with associated splices and terminations, followed by final restoration in accordance with applicable state and municipal regulations.
