Haugland Energy (HE) was awarded a 138kV capital replacement project from LCEC. HE replaced 14 structures, mostly located in Immokalee, Florida. Of the 14 structures replaced, 6 were performed barehanded due to switching issues. The existing structures were wooden H-framed going to dual concrete poles with polymer standoffs. In order to complete the work, HE used majority of our own fleet of equipment including: (2) 105’ Class A Barehand Buckets, (2) 105’ Class B cold buckets, (1) Volvo loader, (1) pressure digger, (1) hot stick trailer and other assorted support equipment.
Some challenges during the project included transitioning from wood to concrete, managing the weight of the concrete poles, which required a 165-ton crane, and addressing the significantly larger space occupied by concrete poles compared to wood. This required complete demolition of the existing structure and pre-spreading of conductors before erecting the new structures. Additionally, the high water table in the area posed a challenge that HE successfully overcame.
