I’m a Marine Operations Supervisor for Haugland Marine Service. I oversee all day-to-day operations, moving our fleet of tug boats and barges. We provide support to Haugland Group’s ongoing jobs by moving any necessary materials and equipment through waterways. I’ve spent most of my life around water and boats and I absolutely love it. When I was deciding on my career path, I took inspiration from my uncle, following his steps, graduating from SUNY Maritime College.

At the beginning of my career I spent 10 years sailing tugboats, working one month on the boat, then one month off. Once I got married, I decided I wanted to work onshore, so I transitioned to a job working on compliance and managing daily maritime operations. Soon after, I was presented with an opportunity to join the Haugland team and help build their new marine division. Every day brings a fresh challenge; at times, it feels like solving a complex puzzle. This role pushes me to learn new things and to grow my knowledge and skills.

There are many great opportunities within the marine industry. You can work on the water and be off half the year, or there are great jobs that allow you to work onshore. A college degree is not required, so if you come in with the right attitude and work hard, the sky is the limit. Recently, I was involved in a really awesome project. I was part of the team that relocated the Concorde supersonic airplane. Our HMS tugboat, Miss Madeline, transported the Concorde up the Hudson River to the Intrepid Museum in NYC. It’s projects like this that excite me about HMS’s future and growth, and I’m proud to be part of it.
