I currently work as a Pole Yard Manager / Ground Woman for Haugland Virgin Islands. Previously, I worked in a refinery for another company before joining HVI over three years ago after Hurricane Maria hit and I lost my job. I heard about HVI by seeing their trucks all over the island while they were doing restoration work after Hurricane Maria.

I enjoy a bit of everything about my job. There is always something new to learn and always something exciting. Some days are tougher than some but we still get through them but that is what makes me stronger. I enjoy working for HVI and having a positive impact with the work we do in our local community. Like with the installation of new Composite poles to replace the old and deteriorating wooden poles all over the island. Wood poles are easily destroyed in a hurricane where the composite poles are much stronger and the only damage would be to the wires, which makes future restorations much easier and quicker.

My advice for women looking to enter the construction field is don’t give up, you can do it too! Just keep pushing, keep your head on and you will succeed to!

I’m proud to contribute to the progress we make and love being a part of the HVI team. My experience with HVI has been fair and provided me equal opportunity which helps me grow as a person. I’m happy to be a part of HVI to provide power and light help my community here in the Virgin Islands. My hope is that HVI’s work will allow residents to maintain power during storms and when power is knocked out it would be restored much quicker.
