Early in my career while working for a school office, in the evening, I went to a business college where I received a degree in business administration. I then started working for an HVAC company in their offices, performing a variety of administrative jobs. It’s there I learned business-related programs and applications, such as QuickBooks.

When I look back, the construction industry was not an obvious choice. I’ve been with Haugland Group as an administrative assistant for 6 years. First at Inwood Material Terminal in Nassau County and then in 2023, I moved over to the company’s new division, Modern Efficient Transport & Supply (M.E.T.S.), at JFK International Airport. Here, I oversee major office functions, including processing important paperwork that keeps our projects moving forward. The environment here is very family like. I’m a people person, so this position is perfect for me because I’m able to interact with a lot of Haugland employees.

As a mom I’m very supportive and proud of my children and of course, I want what’s best for them. My son recently graduated from electrician school, and my daughter is a welder in the automotive industry. I’ve told them it’s important to think about their future, but I also tell them that if it pleases you and make you happy, then go for it.

Working at Haugland Group, I’m treated as an equal – plus my opinion matters. I’m able to make suggestions to try new things. The guys here do not shut down my ideas, and I appreciate it when they ask me to help them. We’re able to support each other. Communication is key, so if I don’t understand something I have no problem asking the guys to repeat themselves. We’re all in it together.
