Field Mechanic – NY

Haugland Group, a privately owned Long Island–based civil infrastructure and energy construction company, has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Road Mechanic to join our team.

We are seeking a skilled, self‑motivated, and highly organized mechanic to support our fleet maintenance operations in the field. This role will primarily involve traveling to various job sites throughout the region to diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of construction equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently, responding to service calls, and performing both routine maintenance and complex troubleshooting in a fast‑paced environment.

Key Functions

  • Perform all aspects of routine maintenance and corrective troubleshooting on a varied fleet of vehicles and industrial construction equipment
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on‑site diagnostics and repairs
  • Maintain and repair tractor trailers, heavy‑duty construction equipment, light‑duty trucks, automobiles, and small machinery
  • Document work performed and communicate equipment status to supervisors and operators

Desired Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience working with tractor trailers, automotive systems, and small engines; welding and heavy equipment experience preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL preferred
  • Personal tool set required
  • Strong initiative, reliability, and commitment to completing assignments efficiently
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and/or weekends on short notice
  • Comfortable working independently in the field and adapting to changing priorities
