They may be in the U.S. Virgin Islands to restore power, but two Haugland Energy linemen helped gift non-electronic games to local children through the project, “Board Games 4 Bored Kids”. Haugland Energy crews witnessed firsthand the destruction that hurricanes Irma and Maria brought to the area, often taking note of lost toys scattered among the debris. During their weeks in St. Croix, Daniel Philips and William Strickland befriended several inquisitive children in Frederiksted, who were always in high-spirits and eager to learn about the work that the linemen were doing. Hoping to spread holiday joy to the children, the two linemen partnered with a local school teacher to fund “Board Games 4 Bored Kids”. Contributing $500 each, Daniel and William then collected an additional $3,000 from fellow Haugland Energy team members. Board games were selected rather than electronic toys to help foster and strengthen relationships within families and the community. As of January 2018, the linemen have helped fund 218 games.
