Fleet Maintenance Supervisor

Haugland Group, a privately-owned Long Island, New York-based electrical and heavy civil construction company has an immediate need for a full-time Fleet Maintenance Supervisor. The position will be based out of our main office in Melville, NY.

We are looking for an experienced someone to oversee all activities of our maintenance department, to ensure that our fleet more than 3,000 pieces of on- and off-road utility equipment, including aerial trucks and associated pieces of equipment are ready for use, dependable, and meet all measures of safety. The successful candidate will manage our repair and preventative maintenance program and ensure compliance with all government regulations and corporate policies.

Key Functions
  • Supervise all aspects of the service department, including breakdowns and emergencies, call/requests from the field, preventative maintenance program, ensure efficiency through the 24/7 dispatch of mechanics, work closely with the Fleet Manager to minimize equipment down time, review service reports, and approve vendor invoices
  • Manage and prioritize the tasks of our growing crew of mobile mechanics. Conduct performance evaluations of the current staff and assist with hiring/staffing needs
  • Perform quality control reviews and spot checks. Identify areas for improvement/increased efficiencies
  • Develop a list of reliable 3rd party vendors for all jobsites to assist in emergencies, as well as to support our widespread operations. Oversee all 3rd party repairs (mechanical and cosmetic)
  • Track state inspections, dielectric testing, ANSI, first aid kits, fire extinguishers
  • Oversee equipment customization/up-fitting requests
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment. Conduct regular shop safety meetings.
  • Aid in ordering parys
Desired Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a fleet maintenance management role of transmission and distribution utility equipment
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • ASE Medium, Heavy Truck certification (NY State Inspector’s license a plus)
  • CDL License, Class A preferred
  • Experience with BOTH Utility and off-road heavy equipment a must
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and fleet management systems (Viewpoint software experience a plus)
  • Display a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner
  • Ability to identify problems; determine accuracy and relevance of information; use sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations for process improvement
  • Effective communication skills, interpersonal and organizational skills, and a strong work ethic
  • Participates productively as a contributing member in a team environment
  • Must have reliable transportation
