Elaine Chao will champion Trump’s plan to transform America’s crumbling infrastructure into an opportunity for accelerated economic growth and more rapid productivity gains with a deficit-neutral plan, targeting substantial new infrastructure investments.

Chao, who served as Labor Secretary through the entire George W. Bush administration, could play a central role in negotiating an infrastructure spending bill. Chao also previously served as the Deputy Secretary of Transportation under President George H.W. Bush. Between her work under various administrations, Chao has served as the Director of the Peace Corps., the President and CEO of United Way of America, was a Distinguished Fellow with The Heritage Foundation (a conservative think tank in Washington D.C.), and served as a board member for several corporate and non-profit organizations, including the Independent Women’s Forum, the Institute of Politics, and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. She was awarded the Woodrow Wilson Award for Public Service in 2011.

Taiwan-born Chao is an immigrant success story, having arrived in America at age eight, and becoming a naturalized citizen at 19. She has early roots in New York; her family first settled in Jamaica, Queens, New York, and she later attended Syosset High School on Long Island. Chao is one of six sisters, four of whom attended Harvard Business School. She was the first Asian-American woman to serve in a Cabinet position.

Trump’s spokesperson Jason Miller said that Trump has, “Taken people who’ve been successful in all different walks of life,” including business, government and military to fill his Cabinet with a “true dream team”.
